Dainichi Nyorai Painting by Natan

Around here, the winter months are always a key time for all of us to polish up on our painting game. Along with the rest of the crew, Natan has been fine tuning a lot of the paintings from his body of work and framing them up for gallery shows and the shop. Check out this large acrylic painting of Dainichi Nyorai Buddha which is characterized by Natan's painterly emphasis on vivid, bright colors seated within a solid foundation of linework and drawing.

Natan is always more than happy to work with clients on translating techniques found within his paintings into custom tattoos and is currently booking consults for a couple of weeks out.

New Work by Natan: Witch-King Watercolor!

Just this past weekend, Natan found some time between tattooing to finish up this piece that had been in progress for awhile (you may remember a rough copy of the design from the 2008 Boston Tattoo Convention t-shirts). This watercolor features some of Natan's signature stylistic moves such as an emphasis on bright vivid color work, a focus on line density, and an organic, intertwining flow and movement. Natan has a bunch of large painting projects he's been working away on so make sure to keep watching the site as we update with more of his work!

New Work by Natan: Harley Davidson Piece

Check out this new tattoo completed by Natan in one session last week; Harley Davidson shield with some flames, American flag, and a “One-Life, One-Ride” banner. Starting with just the original simple concept of a Harley logo on a client's forearm, Natan elaborated upon this piece by incorporating some bright, colorful, and organic background elements to contrast the more geometric and muted Harley shield. Natan is currently booking out for December and January so make s

ure to contact us at 978 744 9393 if you would like to work with him on designing any custom tattoo projects!

Natan Featured on this Week's Ch. 5 Chronicle!

Owner and artist, Natan Alexander will be featured on Wednesday, December 9th's episode of Channel 5 Chronicle as part of their feature on local artists! Tune in at 7:30 p.m. this week to hear Natan's perspective on the artistry of tattooing.

Cockfight Backpiece

Here's what Chronicle has to say about the program:

They see the world more intensely than the rest of us. And the visions they share expand our knowledge and enjoyment of everything around us. On this e

pisode, we profile some local artists who are making their mark, including a man whose murals define the public landscape and another who uses the human body as his canvas.

New Harp tattoo by Molly

Harp Tattoo

Harp Tattoo by Molly McKinnon

The Irish have always been proud to show their heritage in the

form of skin art. The most popular image tends to be a shamrock, or a clover. My client Steve choose to support his roots with another time-honored symbol of the Irish; the harp. Unless you are familiar with the Guinness draft logo, or the Irish in general it may come as a surprise that the image of the harp is the symbol of the Emerald Island. He brought in a photo of a real harp he printed off the internet, but requested I draw it up in a more traditional style.

New Scarab Tattoo by Molly McKinnon

Scarab Tattoo
This is a tattoo I recently did of an Egyptian style scarab. This was the customer’s first tattoo and she wanted to make it count. Most of the time at Witch City Ink we recommend coming in for a consultation in order for your artist to gather all the information needed to give you a great tattoo. The results always speak for themselves.

Portrait Of Mother and Grandfather by N^T^N

Portrait tattoos are a very powerful way to preserve the memory of a loved one forever. Michael Bragan of Salem Massachusetts came into Witch City Ink with a picture of his Mother kissing his Grandfather on her wedding day. He was looking to get a portrait tattoo done, and he chose Natan to do the portrait because he liked some of the other portraits in his portfolio.  His Grandfather had passed away on December 27th of 2007, and Michael felt this would be the best way to honor his grandfather.

In Michael’s words: “I chose this picture because it is my mother’s favorite of the two together and from what I can remember this was the happiest I ever saw him. The smile on his face was priceless!”

Below are the images of the picture Michael brought in, the stencil Natan made of the picture, and the final tattoo.

Natan writes, “Portrait tattoos are always a joy to do because people are so thrilled when you get it perfect. A tattoo of a loved one is a great way to keep them forever in your thoughts. When people bring in their favorite picture of a someone its up to you to really capture not only their likeness but also their spirit. There’s always a great story behind it and its some of the most challenging yet rewarding work you can do.”

Snow Patrol, markers on bristol

Snow Patrol, markers on bristol

I drew this one day at work during a snow storm. One of my favorite themes to get ideas from is post apocalyptic setting. I’m just as happy drawing or tattooing less grim subjects, animals, flowers, “girly stuff”, what not. I just find “The end of days” feeds more into my love and interest in the action movies, 2D animation, and comics I loved growing up that really made me want to pursue my art further. I used markers on heavy stock paper for this piece. Both work well with the layering and experimenting with color I enjoy doing.
