Halloween season is always a crazy time of year here in Salem, MA and this year was no exception! Â The insanity began the first week of October and kept us entertained and swamped the rest of the month.

The crowd the first weekend of Halloween season!

We truly had a blast tattooing fun Salem and Halloween related tattoos on visiting tourists and also really appreciated the patience exhibited by our regular clients who ended up having to deal with unexpectedÂ crowds and the crazy parking situation all month long.

We love wandering through town and seeing all the amazing decorations for Halloween and the Fall.

Jaesun started the month off by adding a fun ceramic jack-o-lantern to his station to add some holiday spirit

Needless to say, it was a fun month, and we were so happy to see our annual visitors, but we are happy to slow down and enjoy the fall in this small New England city by the water! Natan Won Best Backpiece at NH Convention!

While Natan was busy working away at the Manchester, New Hampshire Live Free or Die Tattoo Convention this last weekend, he happened to win the first place trophy for best backpiece! After working through many sessions, Natan recently finished up this massive phoenix piece on shop buddy, Mike Carlin:

Mike was nice enough to make it out the show in order to enter the contests and was rewarded for his efforts with a shiny new plaque.

New work by Molly

Molly just completed this bright, ornate, and colorful feather anklet on one of her clients today. The repeating geometric patterns and highly illustrative style are indicative of Molly's work and this piece proved to be the perfect avenue for her. Although this was the client's first tattoo, she was able to weather the storms and make it through the whole sitting so Molly could finish it up!

New Work by Micah: Sailor Jerry Pinup

Last week I had the good fortune of landing this totally rad Sailor Jerry pinup piece. My client, Adam, is an ex-marine and currently an air marshall and had decided to get some big traditional pieces. I love doing large scale, bold, traditional style work and was glad to get the chance to work on this piece and hang out with him.

Last week, Natan got the chance to finish up this half sleeve of imagery relating to the beast of revelation. This piece features an interesting balance of both illustrative and geometric techniques and gave Natan the opportunity to play around with a diverse and out of the ordinary subject matter.

New Work by Natan

Despite our struggles with the onslaught of snow as of recent, Natan has been pulling consistently long days working on some big new pieces he has in progress. Check 'em all out below:

First up is this in-progress shot of a Kali backpiece that Natan has been working on. The latest session on this involved adding in the tibetan flames as a border around the piece and to accent the natural curvature of his client's anatomy. More photos of this one to come as she heals up and makes it back for more work.

Next is the latest progress shot from another long-term project of Natan's. Our buddy Mike has been in and out of the shop every other week or so, plugging away at getting his full back completed. As you can see, they're just about in the home stretch and should have a finished photo up here fairly soon.

On a slightly smaller scale is this St. Michael piece that Natan completed a couple of months ago.

Natan's been getting a fair amount of religious work coming in lately and it's always interesting to see his take on a particular piece. This one below was rendered out with some soft, muted, painterly tones.

Last up is this piece based on the Alex Grey drawing “The Seer”. If you're familiar with the work of Alex Grey (or if you take a cursory glance at some of his pieces online) you know how incredibly detailed and intricate everything by him is, making it all fairly challenging for translating into a tattoo. Natan was able to figure out a system to tackle this complicated one here, grounding it in a strong and bold tradition of tattooing while maintaining all of the nuances which give the original drawing it's power and effect.
