Molly: A Pre-Vacation In-Progress

Our wonderful Molly is off on some big adventures right now. Over the weekend she got on a plane to Germany, where she will be doing a guest spot in Berlin! She’ll be back at Witch City Ink the week of the 15th, and in the meantime, consults can booked for her return if you call the shop at 978.744.9393.

Here are a couple of pieces that she started shortly before leaving:

New Works from Molly & Jay

Molly and Jay have had a lot of fun clients and tattoo ideas come their way lately. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

This is a nautical sleeve done by Molly, on a fellow named Joe. He gave Molly a lot of artistic freedom with this one, and everyone walked away happy. The movement! The colors! Any ocean lover would be envious of this.

Molly also finished up this large plumeria piece. It begins on the client’s shoulderblade, and extends down her side. That’s some nice black and grey right there.

Jay has been busy as well, and continues to divide his time between Witch City Ink (where he works Friday and Saturday), and over at Lightwave (Monday through Thursday). This first piece – featuring dragonflies, flowers, and stars – was done at Lightwave.

Then there’s this owl! The skull makes it a little bit creepy, and the flower a little bit pretty, and we love that contrast.

Another Christmas reminder: The holiday is two weeks from today, so if you need to get a Witch City Ink gift certificate (they’re also good over at our sister shop Lightwave), we recommend doing so soon! Especially if you need us to mail it out to you. Mail runs a bit slower this time of year, so call us asap! 978.744.9393

Natan: Progressions

As usual, Natan has a ton of gorgeous in-progress pieces going on. One of the larger ones is a bright full backpiece on a very boisterous individual named Tony (if you’ve met him, you’ll know who we’re talking about by that short description alone). Since it is such a large and epic work, we’re not going to show you much of it right now, but this is what it was looking like at the end of his last session. He was lying down in this picture, so please forgive the odd angle:

Then there is Jon, who is in the beginning stages of a full sleeve that extends onto his chest. He and Natan came up with a very unique concept to include portraits of his wife and children, as well as a dragon. That might sound like an odd combination, and we don’t want to give too much away yet, but it’s all going to tie together beautifully. Here is the last portrait that Natan added to the piece:

You may remember this post featuring the first of Ted’s dia de los muertos girls. Natan added a second beauty to the piece earlier this week. This one is also going to be a coverup, as you can see in the photo.

Just a couple of reminders: Natan is currently booked through early January at this point, so if you want him to get started on your next tattoo, be sure to schedule a consult soon so we can get the ball rolling!

Secondly, we continue to have gift certificates available, and Christmas is only a couple of weeks away! If you need one mailed to you, we recommend giving us a call by early next week, to ensure that it gets to you in time for the holiday. 978.744.9393

In Progress Works

A lot of in progress pieces are happening at the shop lately, but we aren’t showing you most of them because sometimes we like to tease you and make you wait for the end result. Natan, for example, has a HUGE in progress file that we swoon over often, but he won’t let us show it to you. In an effort to appease this blogger, Molly and Steve have taken pictures of the following and are letting them out into the internet world.

These plumeria flowers started out as a small ballpoint sketch of Molly’s, and grew into this. Which will actually continue to grow, as the client wants to add more.

Steve started this large Saint Demetrius rib piece today. We predict that it’s going to look rather beautiful by the time it’s finished — not that it’s hard on the eyes even at this stage!

A Bit of Black & Grey

As October rolls on, each weekend is a little busier than the last. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting some great new clients, as well as working with some of the old.

Steve did this massive rosary on a very friendly guy who was visiting Salem with his family. He sat like a champ!

Molly was the genius behind this next tattoo, which was on a lady’s inner bicep. Molly freehanded the outline on her, shown below in the first picture.

Finished (click for larger):

Natan did these steampunk locks and keys on a wonderful couple. We really do have the best clients. Hers was actually done last week, but his was done today.

Hers (and again, please forgive the redness that goes along with new tattoos):

October: The Time for All Things Spooky

Many people associate October with Halloween, general spookiness, and the official start of autumn. Being in Salem, we get a good dose of spooky year round, but somehow as soon as the calendar folds over to October 1st, the number of witch hats, weird masks, and pumpkin goodies vastly increases. And we also do a fair amount of Halloween-related tattoos year round, but it’s no secret that this number also increases during this chilly month. We are always more than happy to give a Salem visitor a permanent souvenir from their trip! In fact, many visitors book their October appointments with us in advance, to make sure that they get some time with one of our artists that they’ve been admiring from afar.

We do still have spots open, but they’re filling up fast! If you’re a traveler or a local that wants to get some work done this month, be sure to give us a call soon! 978.744.9393

Of course, we’re not going to make this a text-only post — your eyes deserve more than that! In honor of our favorite month of ghouls, here are some amazingly creepy tattoos from years past by our artists.

I bet you can guess who this one’s from. Bold backpiece? Black and grey? Fantastically shiver-inducing? Definitely Natan’s work.

Steve created this death dealer piece. You would not want this guy and his horse coming after you.

The flowers don’t make this skull piece by PJ any less tough.

Jack-o-lanterns are a popular choice when it comes to Salem tattoo souvenirs. Not as popular as witches, of course. Molly executed this one so wonderfully, that two future clients from North Carolina scheduled time with her for their visit this year.

Molly also did this next tattoo, which we wouldn’t call SPOOKY, but it’s still darn good and reminds us of fall in Salem.

We’ve also done more than one Halloween sleeve. This is a great example, thanks to Natan. The piece flows with that arm perfectly.

Well there’s your pre-Halloween teaser. We’ll definitely be sharing more with you as the month rolls on!

Some Black and Grey by Natan

I know it seems like we’ve been blogging about everyone but Natan these days. This does not mean that he’s been tattooing less — in fact, he’s busier than ever as of late. Quite a few of his recent pieces are larger and spanning multiple sessions, so we can’t share those with you yet, but trust us when we say they’re worth the wait. His “smaller” pieces are coming out beautifully as well, and we’re excited to share these two with you today.

The first is an eagle on an extremely tough guy’s ribcage/side. He sat for hours without complaint, and then was kind enough to pay Natan a visit so he could take photos after the tattoo had healed a bit.

Second is a portrait of a lovely young lady, done on her father. Now that’s parental pride right there. She didn’t know this was being done, and we wish we could be there to witness her reaction!

Natan has very limited appointments available between now and the end of October, but we are always more than happy to set up a consult for you to get your next piece started as soon as possible! Give us a call any time: 978.744.9393

Molly and the Tribal Coverup

Any tattooer that knows what they’re doing can tell you that coverups can be tricky things. It truly takes skill to execute a coverup piece that looks good — and not completely obvious.

There are many great things about this piece done by Molly. Including this (words straight from Molly’s fingertips): “This is a cover up of a very large, thick, tribal arm band on Adam’s forearm. The top part is all healed and the lower half is fresher.”

And here is a shot of the healed shoulder, without the (pesky yet occasionally unavoidable) glare:

Skulls, Soldiers and Flowers

Judging by the chill in the air this morning, summer may officially be over, but things aren’t slowing down over here at Witch City Ink. We’ve been plenty busy this week making people happy with their new tattoos!

Molly did this lovely lotus flower on a very nice young lady’s calf. Lotus flowers are often seen a symbol of divine beauty, and this tattoo is no exception.

Steve finished this in an absurdly short amount of time! What’s better than a skull? A crystal skull.

Whenever someone comes into the shop requesting something traditional, we will usually refer them to PJ. Few things make him happier than getting to tattoo in this style.

And last but not least, Natan did this piece on a brave fellow’s side. Perhaps you might recognize it?

We’re already starting to book appointments for October, so if you’re planning on coming to Salem for the autumn/Halloween season and want to get tattooed by us, you might want to contact us in the next few weeks!

Fetal Skeleton Tattoo by Molly!

Everyone here at the shop relishes the opportunity to work on any project involving skulls. Call us predictable (seeing as how we are in the middle of Salem), but nothing beats a good skull tattoo! However, Molly recently discovered that the only thing cooler than skeleton tattoos are black and grey, conjoined-twin, fetal skeleton tattoos! Check out her work below and make sure to give us a ring if you have any creative ta

ke on a skeleton tattoo (or any other fun custom ideas) for Molly to help you out with.
