Natan continues to have several works in progress. This is a positive thing. It means that many, many large pieces are happening, and multiple sessions means putting focus and care into the tattoo. Here are two recent first-session pieces.

This first one belongs to Paula. She’s known Natan for quite some time, so when she came in for her consult, she more or less told him what she wanted and where, with few guidelines, and left the rest up to him. On the day of her appointment, she was surprised that the drawing he had prepared was so large, and was a little nervous about having to sit for the entire outline! Most clients sit far better than they expect to, and Paula was no exception. By the end of the session, she earned a spot in our “champion” category. We can’t wait to see this piece progress, it’s already looking gorgeous!

Jessica is another lovely client that came to Natan with a handful of references and a whole lot of trust. She had been following his work online for years, and wasn’t at all hesitant about giving him creative license. She initially wanted a forearm piece that would also cover an existing small tattoo, but Natan’s ideas bloomed into something much bigger. Jessica came in, saw what he had prepared, and was excitedly on board. She walked out with a whole sleeve outlined, and all parties were thrilled with the results.

Natan currently has some openings for mid-May, so if anyone wants a later appointment bumped up, or wants to start something new, give us a call! 978.744.9393

Whenever blog posts about Natan aren’t happening, it’s because his schedule is consisting of many, many in progress pieces. He prefers to keep work a secret from the internet until it’s completed, but he’s letting us make an exception for this one!

The client came in with an idea for an ouroboros tattoo. Natan asked him a lot of questions, because it’s important to get to know a bit of the client’s personality, likes, and dislikes in a consult (especially for large tattoos), and turned his ouroboros idea into something much more grand. The client loved it, and has been in for multiple sessions, which he drives to and from New York for. We appreciate his dedication to the back piece, and it’s always fun having him here in the shop. He’s got some more hours in the chair before it’s finished, and we’re all excited for the final result!

Natan is currently booked until April, but he has time for short sessions, smaller pieces, and consults for a few days in March. Give us a call if you want in! 978.744.9393

For the past four years, Boston’s Stuff Magazine has put out an annual body issue. This year, they did a feature on tattooed folk, and who better to speak to about body art than our very own Natan Alexander? As most Witch City Ink clients know, he is one of New England’s most prominent tattooers, currently owning two shops while also being the brains and the love behind the Boston Tattoo Convention. Oh, and did you know that he was one of the people who pushed to legalize tattooing in Massachusetts? This is a man who is passionate about what he does, and we’re proud to have him representing us in Stuff.

Pick up your copy now all over the Boston area, or check out Natan’s feature right here on the Stuff Mag website. You can see the Boston, Ink feature in it’s entirety online here.

If you’re interested in getting tattooed at the show, give us a call at 978.744.9393, or send an email over to witchcityink@gmail.com.

Below is some of Natan’s work, which has won multiple awards at various conventions!

And although New England has lucked out with a mild winter thus far, who doesn’t need a vacation by the time February rolls around? This is a really good excuse to get away and get tattooed. If you’ve never been, Philadelphia is a beautiful city, full of history, art, and good food. If you prefer not to drive, their public transit system is easy to figure out. So even if you choose not to spend all of your time at the convention, you’ll have plenty of things to do! We’d be more than happy to give you some recommendations.

As usual, Natan has a ton of gorgeous in-progress pieces going on. One of the larger ones is a bright full backpiece on a very boisterous individual named Tony (if you’ve met him, you’ll know who we’re talking about by that short description alone). Since it is such a large and epic work, we’re not going to show you much of it right now, but this is what it was looking like at the end of his last session. He was lying down in this picture, so please forgive the odd angle:

Then there is Jon, who is in the beginning stages of a full sleeve that extends onto his chest. He and Natan came up with a very unique concept to include portraits of his wife and children, as well as a dragon. That might sound like an odd combination, and we don’t want to give too much away yet, but it’s all going to tie together beautifully. Here is the last portrait that Natan added to the piece:

You may remember this post featuring the first of Ted’s dia de los muertos girls. Natan added a second beauty to the piece earlier this week. This one is also going to be a coverup, as you can see in the photo.

Just a couple of reminders: Natan is currently booked through early January at this point, so if you want him to get started on your next tattoo, be sure to schedule a consult soon so we can get the ball rolling!

Secondly, we continue to have gift certificates available, and Christmas is only a couple of weeks away! If you need one mailed to you, we recommend giving us a call by early next week, to ensure that it gets to you in time for the holiday. 978.744.9393

Nobody likes New England in early January. Fortunately for Natan and Jay, they’ll be hopping on a plane and soaking up some hot Miami sun, while the rest of us up north glare outside at what will presumably be freezing temperatures and snow.

This is great news for Floridians, or even anyone who is seeking an excuse for a vacation. Because the two troublemakers will be tattooing at Tattoolapalooza, and if you want to get tattooed by either of these talented fellows at the convention, they have openings. It will be a really cool event, so definitely take advantage of the opportunity if you can! It’s happening January 6-8 at the Hyatt Regency in Miama, FL – check out info below for booking with our guys.

As October rolls on, each weekend is a little busier than the last. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting some great new clients, as well as working with some of the old.

Steve did this massive rosary on a very friendly guy who was visiting Salem with his family. He sat like a champ!

Molly was the genius behind this next tattoo, which was on a lady’s inner bicep. Molly freehanded the outline on her, shown below in the first picture.

Finished (click for larger):

Natan did these steampunk locks and keys on a wonderful couple. We really do have the best clients. Hers was actually done last week, but his was done today.

Hers (and again, please forgive the redness that goes along with new tattoos):

His:

Sometimes putting too much symbolism into a tattoo doesn’t work out. If you try to put too many elements into a relatively small space, it can appear jumbled and confusing — both aesthetically and logically. This client came to us with a handful of ideas, all good ones, and Natan helped him put them all together into one piece. This tattoo is not only good, but it makes sense when you look at it. Not everyone could figure out how to put a raven, all-seeing eye, and alpha and omega symbols together without it being a mess.

Fun fact: Natan was not responsible for the lettering above the raven, but Jay Ski over at our sister shop Lightwave was.

Every so often we get a client that trusts us enough to give us a larger-than-usual amount of artistic license. Ted is one of those clients. He gave Natan a few ideas, and ended up with a gorgeous Day of the Dead woman on his arm. It hurt, but he was all smiles when he left the shop last night.

In less exciting news, there will be some road closures and parking bans in downtown Salem this Thursday, October 6th, and over the weekend, October 8th and 9th. This does not mean that Witch City Ink will be inaccessible, but parking will be a little less fun than usual. Click here for a list of streets that will be closed, along with the specific times.
